PTECFF Receives Meaningful Estate Gift From Educator Nancy Schmerdtmann

Pender, Neb. (July 20, 2026) The Pender-Thurston Education & Community Foundation Fund (PTECFF) is honored to announce the receipt of a generous estate gift from the late Nancy Schmerdtmann, a 1961 graduate of Pender Public Schools whose love for her hometown remained strong throughout her life.
Although Nancy built her adult life and career away from Pender, the community where she grew up always held a special place in her heart. Through this thoughtful estate gift, her legacy will continue to make a lasting impact on future generations in the community that helped shape her.
Nancy dedicated her professional life to education, making the Foundation's mission especially meaningful to her. Her gift reflects a lifelong belief in the importance of learning and investing in opportunities that help students and communities thrive.

During Pender Alumni Weekend last month, members of the Foundation had the privilege of personally thanking Nancy's sister, Aline, and her husband, Jim, who were in attendance as Aline celebrated her 60-year class reunion. The Foundation was honored to meet with the family, express its gratitude, and commemorate the occasion with a photo together.
Estate gifts play a vital role in ensuring the Foundation can continue supporting educational opportunities, scholarships, and community initiatives for generations to come. Nancy's gift serves as a powerful reminder that no matter where life leads, the connection to one's hometown can leave a lasting legacy.
