Learn, Lead and Make a Difference

Join the Youth Community Improvement Group

Have you ever wondered how projects actually happen in a community? The Youth Community Improvement Group gives Pender high school students the chance to find out. In partnership with the Pender Thurston Education and Community Foundation Fund (PTECFF), this hands-on program invites students in grades 9-12 to learn how community projects come together. Then they lead one of their own. Participants receive real funding and decide as a group how to use it to make a real impact in our community. As one of the group’s first tasks, students will also choose the program’s official name.

Joining is easy. The application process is simple, and everyone is welcome, no prior experience needed. Students will work alongside local mentors and committee members to learn the full process: spotting a need, planning a project, budgeting and seeing it through. It’s a chance to build leadership skills, meet people who care about Pender and leave a lasting mark on the town you call home.

Deadline to apply is October 28.

Have questions? We’d love to hear from you.
